The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has a new scholarship programme at Xi'an Jiaotong University that will help some 150 students, and it will also help recipients form a community service group to work for good causes.
At the signing ceremony of the scholarship programme, Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok said that the Foundation has worked with a number of prestigious universities over the years. She noted that Xi'an Jiaotong University has seen rapid development in recent years, setting up national-level research platforms and international exchange networks that offer comprehensive learning and the opportunity to develop creative thinking. The Foundation would continue offering scholarships to talented students with limited means so they could study at university and have an opportunity to climb the social ladder and give back to society.
Xi'an Jiaotong University Party Committee Deputy Secretary Gong Hui thanked the Foundation and said: "The university was established more than 120 years ago and we have been promoting development in the central and western regions. Many of our students are from these areas including ethnic minorities, and some struggle with poverty. These scholarships will relieve their financial burden and give them a chance to concentrate on their university studies, enabling them to prosper and contribute to society and the nation."
