Turn a page this July

The annual Hong Kong Book Fair every July kicks off the long-awaited summer school break, and SHKP will again take underprivileged children to the fair in its Read to Dream programme while the SHKP Reading Club will have a booth at the event.

Introducing the disadvantaged to the fun of reading

The ninth Read to Dream programme with St. James' Settlement and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council will bring a wider culture of reading and exploration to disadvantaged children, taking more than a thousand of them to the book fair with subsidies to buy books and a chance to attend celebrity seminars and creative workshops. Readers are also encouraged to visit the SHKP Reading Club booth 1A-B07 in Hall 1, The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, to support the promotion of reading enjoyment.

Free creative writing seminars

The SHKP Reading Club "Exploring the World of Creativity" talk series is on. It started with noted musician Yu Yat-yiu, professor and chair of The University of Hong Kong Department of Music Chan Hing-yan, Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts lecturer and cartoonist Justin Wong Chiu-tat and past Young Writers' Debut Competition winners Ko Shing and Ricky Lai offering ways to draw inspiration from everyday life and turn it into creative ideas at talks in June. Invitations have gone out to other celebrity guests to encourage interaction with book lovers and aspiring writers who may be interested in joining the 2016/17 Young Writers' Debut Competition (click here for details).
