Caring community service for seniors and youth

The SHKP Building Homes with Heart Caring Initiative distributed 6,000 moon cakes to seniors in Central & Western District and Yuen Long to mark Mid-autumn festival, and another initiative helped seniors in Sai Wan by having volunteers visit and evaluate their homes for safety and awareness to offer peace of mind. In the meantime, SHKP encourages its staff to volunteer through programmes with different social service agencies.

Long-term volunteer programmes

SHKP is running a Warmth in the Heart of Sham Shui Po winter volunteer programme with the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council from September this year to next February for senior singles and couples in Nam Shan Estate. They received festive gifts for Mid-autumn festival followed by regular phone calls to pay respects and ask if they need winter clothing or quilts. The volunteers also show their care by offering hot soup and making handicrafts with the seniors.

The volunteers also worked with the Hong Kong Playground Association to stage the SHKP Versatile Harmony Project, a ten-month programme for ethnic minorities and young new immigrants in Tsing Yi from September onwards. They break language barriers with interactive games and help foster mutual understanding of living habits, culture and religion by talking about work and life. The programme is meant to help the target groups assimilate happily in society.
