SHKP Club's "Loving Home Faithfully" campaign brings families together in a spirit of sincerity

SHKP Club's annual theme for its activities in 2023 is "Loving Home Faithfully". A series of online and offline member events will be organised to encourage everyone to take good care of their family to ensure they always feel loved and to bring even more happiness into the home.

True and heartfelt lasting happiness

SHKP Club will first launch the "Most Heartfelt Home Moments" Competition, cordially inviting members and the public to share their most touching and memorable stories of family life, such as the patient guidance given by parents, selfless devotion to the family, and the constant support of family members, so as to bring families closer together and promote a more joyful and fulfilling loving home life. The competition comprises a Member Category and an Open Category (Junior, Intermediate, Senior). There are no restrictions on participants' age or entry format. We welcome text, pictures, drawings, multimedia videos, etc. The competition offers a rich assortment of prizes that are worth more than HK$200,000 in total for over 350 prize winners. We look forward to your participation!

Stories of sincere family love and happiness

Through the below stories, we can explore the secrets to taking care of your family with love and sincerity, and of bringing out the loving home heart.

A tender note
How to be truly loving and caring: Be honest and open with each other

When I saw a note saying "Good luck for the interview!" gently fixed to my freshly-ironed suit, I immediately burst into tears. This tender note could only have been written by my wife, and it made my heart swell. I placed it carefully inside my briefcase. As the breadwinner of the family, suddenly losing my job was a hard thing to admit to my wife. She was so considerate of my feelings, however, and was always there by my side, silently supporting me. When I'd mustered the courage to tell her everything, she didn't blame me. She just gave me a big hug and offered me all her strength and support. I came to appreciate that being honest with my family is what makes a happy home.

The most considerate family
How to be truly loving and caring: Devote oneself sincerely to one's family

When I was discharged from the hospital and walked through the door of our home, I was deeply moved by what I saw. There were new handrails in the hallway, new low towel racks, a newly installed stool to make putting on shoes easier, and other thoughtful changes to the home that had all been arranged for me by my grandson. Since I suffered from leg problems, I was no longer as physically strong as I had been before, and I was very touched by my grandson's sense of duty to take care of me, without him even saying anything. I used to take care of my grandson, but I never expected him to understand and be so sincerely thoughtful towards me so soon. I was so pleased, and I hope there will be more good times for us to enjoy in the future.

The best cheerleaders
How to be truly loving and caring: Always support your family

"Little brother, no matter how well you do tomorrow, your elder sister stands by you!" "Son, just relax, wait until you get your results and then think carefully about your plans!" I took to heart every message I received from my family, I was so moved. The night before the results were released, I couldn't relax, and I couldn't get a wink of sleep all night. My attentive family saw that the light in my room was still on, so they all came in to cheer me up. Even my grandmother who usually goes to bed early and gets up early in the morning specially prepared hot soup for me to help me sleep, even though it was past midnight. They don't ask for anything in return, they just love me, and I will return their love and give thanks to my family with the same sincere love as they give to me.

A moving birthday card
How to be truly loving and caring: Keep your family always in mind

When I stepped into the room, I saw the floor was covered in handwritten cards. Some seemed to have cakes drawn on them, some had drawings of presents. Looking up, I saw my elder daughter carefully guiding my younger daughter's little hand as she drew a birthday card. My younger daughter asked: "What colour should I use for mum's skirt?" My elder daughter said: "How about green? That's mum's favourite colour!" I was so moved to see my two daughters discuss it so earnestly and take such time to draw me a birthday card. Although they are young, they always think of me and of things to do to make me happy. They are my joy and they motivate me to be a better person every day.

“My Inspiring Family Coaches” Competition deepens the spirit of Loving Home Learning Together

In line with our theme of the year, "Loving Home Learning Together", SHKP Club specially held the Hong Kong-wide “My Inspiring Family Coaches” Competition to encourage members and the public to explore new things and ways of interacting with each other. The event received an enthusiastic response, with participants of all ages finding expression for the mutual support of the family and growing together through their entries. SHKP Club once again held an online and offline prize presentation ceremony, allowing the winners to thank their family and friends for their support live online, and share their thoughts on learning and progressing together with their family, including:

  • Always share your knowledge with your family in a tireless spirit of learning

  • Discover and cultivate shared interests together to create abundant and fulfilling parent-child quality time

  • Appreciate one another within the family and set a good example

Below are the winning entries in each category:

Member Category: Wong Bing-wai's Tireless Spirit of Learning
Learning Together secrets: Lead by example and never tire of learning
Inspiring Family Coach: Father

After graduating from junior high school, Bing Wai's father became an apprentice at a barber shop and attended night school after work. Over the years, his father's dedication to barbering and his hard-working and diligent character taught Bing Wai that no matter what industry he went into, he must go into it well prepared. In recent years, Bing Wai's father decided to close his own barbershop and retire, then enroll with the Elder Academy for further study and learn to use his mobile phone and online resources for self-improvement. This proactive attitude to learning made Bing Wai appreciate the importance of perseverance and tireless effort.

Loving Home Spirit: Pass on the strengths of your family and strive for progress together.

Chan Pun-hei's Encouragement and companionship
Learning Together secrets: Support each other and strive for self-development
Inspiring Family Coach: Mother

When he was a child, Pun-hei found it hard to focus, and his mother taught him every day to learn different skills. Gradually, he became able to tell stories with confidence in front of his peers and his academic performance improved. One time, Pun-hei and his mother made a cake to celebrate his father's birthday. Together, they searched the Internet to find out how to make the cake and then went out to buy the ingredients. However, the appearance and taste of the cake did not turn out as expected, and Pun-hei became discouraged. But his mother kept encouraging him, helping him to understand that one can only succeed at anything by studying hard. It was this love and care from his mother that taught Pun-hei how to bravely face life's challenges.

Loving Home Spirit: We can overcome difficulties together with the support of our loved ones.

Intermediate Category: Wong Yi-kei's Learning and growing together
Learning Together secrets: Inspire one another and face all things together
Inspiring Family Coach: Mother

When Yi-kei learned of her mother's wish to create the perfect home, but that she didn't know how to search for relevant information using the computer, she took the initiative to write down various online home goods and tips for her mother to use and became her "little assistant". They both wanted to contribute to the family, proactively seeking new knowledge to share and try together, such as learning how to make dumplings by watching videos, which brought them closer and deepened their understanding of each other. Both mother and daughter grew together and became each other's most dependable Inspiring Family Coach.

Loving Home Spirit: Explore new things together to improve the parent-child relationship and interactions.

Senior Category: Wong Chun-ting's Lifelong learning
Learning Together secrets: Teach each other by word and deed, and learning knows no distinction of age
Inspiring Family Coach: Grandfather

Chun-ting's grandfather was very active and loved to learn. He taught him origami, how to play chess, and how to play the harmonica when he was still a child. He also talked about his work when he was young. He taught his grandson that having lots of material things did not necessarily make a happy childhood, and that being surrounded by family and sharing together were what mattered most in life. Chun-ting's grandfather is no longer young, but he still learns English and does crosswords with Chun-ting, and he is learning how to use electronic dictionaries to look up new words. His grandfather's spirit of lifelong learning encouraged Chun-ting to keep studying in his spare time after he graduated, and he lives an active life every day, just like his grandfather.

Loving Home Spirit: Be sincere when communicating and set a good example for others to learn from to improve family relationships.
