SHKP optimises energy saving and emission reduction measures to become carbon neutral for a sustainable future

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) recently released its 2021/22 Sustainability Report, detailing the Group's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, and pledging full support for Hong Kong’s and the Mainland's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 and 2060, respectively. The Report includes disclosure of climate-related governance, strategies, risk management and targets, with reference to the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) started from this reporting year. In addition, SHKP also signed two sustainability-linked loan facilities with leading banks in the reporting year, reflecting the banking industry’s support for the Group. SHKP will continue to step up ESG efforts. This, together with the Group's quality products and services, is conducive to making Hong Kong a better place to live and work, and nurturing future generations.

Ma Wan Park Nature Garden supports SHKP in practising the spirit of corporate citizenship

Ma Wan Park Nature Garden is a free community facility located on the lush green island of Ma Wan. It is one of the most biodiverse parks in Hong Kong, with a wide variety of native plant species. Nature Garden is committed to promoting low-carbon lifestyles, such as the recently launched "Community Organic Farm Plot Scheme". The scheme arranges free farming and landscaping workshops for public participants. In line with Sun Hung Kai Properties' (SHKP's) sustainable development principles in environmental protection and SHKP's practise of corporate citizenship, the park is planning to establish a mushroom cultivation facility, aiming to create an educational demonstration platform for the up-cycling of local wastes into edible mushrooms. The ultimate goal is to help the earth to achieve carbon neutrality.

SHKP continues to promote sports and healthy living

To further enhance the development of cycling sports, the SHKP Cycling Academy sponsored by Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) visited a number of secondary schools this year to deepen students' understanding of track cycling through retired Hong Kong Cycling Team athletes sharing their experiences and the holding of cycling competitions. The Academy also offers professional training to encourage students' competitive spirit and develop their sportsmanship. To date, nearly 6,000 teachers and students from 20 secondary schools have actively participated, and three of these schools have opened training centres on campus to serve as training hubs in respective districts. The SHKP Supernova Cycling Team sponsored by SHKP also continues to provide road cycling training for underprivileged young people. Five of the team members were selected to travel overseas for training, and an additional eight competed in international events as members of the Hong Kong Cycling team, a dream come true for these young people.

SHKP Reading Club brings students out of the classroom with STEM learning together online and offline

SHKP Reading Club actively promotes Innovation and Technology as well as youth reading. Activities have included jointly organising a 5G STEM Classroom with SmarTone and holding seminars under the Read & Share Programme. Among them, the Ancient and Modern Technology and Life Culture in China Seminar has stimulated creative thinking by linking examples taken from modern daily life with literary works, such as those written by the late famous writer Zhu Ziqing. If he had taken the high-speed rail, it would have been difficult for him to write the moving scene in Retreating Figure of his father tottering up onto the platform. SHKP Reading Club also invited experts to deconstruct the claw machine at the STEM Everywhere of Our Life Sharing Session. For example, the mechanical claw wrapped in a plastic sleeve exerts a strong friction effect and has a higher chance of winning the prize, an experience that helped students to easily raise their STEM knowledge. Some of the events were hosted via Zoom as well for students staying at home to fight the pandemic. Looking forward to the coming year, SHKP Reading Club will continue to visit different schools to deliver a richer and more fun Read & Share Programme.
