Construction of the International Commerce Centre project at Guangzhou South Railway Station officially begins

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) recently held a ground-breaking ceremony adjacent to Guangzhou South Railway Station (GZSS) to mark the commencement of construction of the International Commerce Centre project in GZSS, an important milestone for SHKP's active participation in the development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

A threefold vision to facilitate the development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area

The International Commerce Centre project at GZSS will provide office towers, a shopping mall, a hotel, residences, serviced apartments and public transport facilities, with an integrated development space of around 860,000 square metres (9.3 million square feet), which is expected to be completed in phases from 2025. SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok visited Guangzhou with senior SHKP management to deliver a speech to mark the commencement of construction and to share his threefold vision for the International Commerce Centre project at GZSS: "A New Landmark, a New Hub, and a New Engine":

The comprehensive development of the International Commerce Centre project at GZSS, and the International Commerce Centre (ICC) at Hong Kong's Kowloon Station, as well as the new commercial site atop High Speed Rail West Kowloon Station, sit at the two ends of the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong High Speed Rail line. Through the advantages of High Speed Rail connectivity and the synergy between the projects, this "New Landmark", driven by the connection of Hong Kong and Guangzhou in the GBA, will reinforce the linkage and collaboration of the two core cities.

GZSS is an invaluable rail transit hub in the GBA, which brings together up to 12 rail transit lines (high-speed rails, inter-city rails and metro lines). Based on the development concept of "seamless connectivity", the International Commerce Centre project at GZSS will develop into an international first-class integrated transit-oriented development (TOD) project for living, working and travelling in the GBA. It will attract more enterprises and talents to invest, work and live in Guangzhou and Panyu, and promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Mainland among young people from Hong Kong and Macau. The project will become the "New Hub" that embodies the one-hour living circle in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao GBA.

Landmark shopping malls previously developed by SHKP such as Guangzhou Parc Central and Guangzhou International Grand City (IGC) have contributed to the economic development of the region and uplifted the core commercial districts in Tianhe and Zhujiang New Town. The International Commerce Centre project at GZSS will also serve as a driving force for local economic development, and become the "New Engine" facilitating Guangzhou's development into an international consumption centre city.
