How can people handle both career and home life in fast-paced Hong Kong?

Mr Shek explained how to balance time between work and family effectively for better productivity and a more enriching family life.

Time management

People never seem to have enough time. In the Art of Living seminar, Mr Shek said that one must learn the difference between pressing but unimportant matters and important but non-urgent matters. He said that people often tend to spend their time on unimportant matters that seem urgent. He said people should prioritize their schedules in a sensible way. "A proper schedule is necessary because it tells us what is really important to do. This way, we can manage our time efficiently," he said.

Relaxing mood improves efficiency

Mr Shek is a writer. He joked that he often found inspirations when he was using the toilet, as he was 'most relaxed' there. He sees a relaxed mood as a prerequisite to work efficiency. "When we are relaxed, our minds work better and it helps our work. For example, if you are in a rush to work and get sweaty, your stink will put people off. On the other hand, if you can leave home early you will have an easier time getting to work and be in a better mood."

Work does not stop Mr Shek from exercising: "I lie on the couch when I watch TV. This position is good for the liver. I also do simple exercises while watching TV so that I can be entertained and workout at the same time." Mr Shek seldom drives and likes public transport better as he can think during the commute. Good time management helps Mr Shek remain relaxed.
