Marriage is a lifetime commitment. The SHKP Club staged a marriage seminar on 20 August with speakers Ng Sze Yuen and Lee Yan Yi offering tips on a happy marriage.
Ng used Laozi's philosophy of water to highlight the key elements to a happy marriage:
- Humbleness
- Softness (manner)
- Variety (thoughtfulness)
- Open-mindedness
- Patience
Conflicts are avoidable. Ng cited the teaching of Thich Nh t H nh to encourage couples to be honest and open with each other when dealing with issues and avoid making comparisons with each other.
He also listed eight ways to stay happy in a marriage:
- Be understanding
- Remember to say sorry and thank you
- Admit and correct mistakes
- Be considerate
- Accept each other
- Be supportive
- Ask about the other's problems
- Talk about your problems

The speakers also engaged audience in fun role playing. The seminar ended with much laughter and members said it was informative and lively.
