Sun Hung Kai Properties' Book Club is staging a series of seminar with noted scholars and authors speaking on reading-related topics. The first seminar held in January this year had renowned scholar Professor Yu Dan from the Faculty of Media and Arts at Beijing Normal University speaking on life philosophy in Chinese classics. The second seminar took place at Conrad Hotel on 24 February with Associate Dean Joseph Sung from the Chinese University of Hong Kong Faculty of Medicine and Ho Hoi Lam, the Faculty's youngest student, speaking on reading and life. SHKP Club reserved a number of seats for members so that they could learn from Joseph Sung and Ho Hoi Lam on reading and life. Professor Sung talked about several books and revealed that he has read different books at different stages of his life. Reading helps him understand the deeper meaning of life and refine his ability to cope with adversity, leaving him more able to help other live positively. Ho Hoi Lam, 15, picked up the habit of reading from her mother at young age. Grimm's Fairy Tale, Aesop's Fables, Mystery fictions and Traveling guides are some of her favorite titles throughout her childhood. Hoi Lam reads a wide range of books to enrich her imagination. Reading helps her learn about interpersonal relationship and the bigger issues of growth and death. SHKP Club members attending the seminar were satisfied, noting that the seminar had broadened their horizons. The Club will continue to stage different activities and seminars to meet members' needs.
