The third Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board with Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) as title and charity sponsor was held on 8 October, drawing over 4,900 participants. Entrants in the 50km ride went through three tunnels and over three bridges where they could catch stunning views of Hong Kong.
This year’s highlight was Hong Kong’s first Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Asia Tour Class 1.1 Road Race Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Challenge. There were nearly 100 top local and international riders in the exciting 103km race won by Slovenian cyclist Matej Mohoric. Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon was not only exciting but it also served a worthy cause with part of the enrolment fees from the different events and all the enrolment fees from the CEO Charity Ride going to charity, along with an extra donation from SHKP. Beneficiaries include The Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA) and The Community Chest of Hong Kong to subsidize projects like the SHKP-Science and Innovation Project for Gifted (II) under BGCA. It provides free STEM education to gifted children from low-income families. On the race day, some children in BGCA entered the Family Fun Ride to enjoy cycling with their parents.
