The free reading platform linepaper which is backed by the SHKP Reading Club and developed by Roundtable, is now up to encourage the public, especially the young, to step into the fantasy world of reading.
During the Hong Kong Book Fair in July, the Reading Club continued to promote the pleasure of reading by hosting a booth equipped with smartphones and mobile services powered by SmarTone to allow visitors trying linepaper’s website and mobile app. The new offering delivers information through new media and traditional channels, and its name combines online and paper, reflecting that reading can freely cross online or offline and be fully interactive. Each issue will follow real-life themes, discussing different aspects of reading in a lively, engaging and easy-to-understand manner; plus will introduce good books from Hong Kong and around the world. Many writers, academics and others from all walks of life will recount their creative reading stories, and there will be special columns like English Corner introducing English works and interviews with native-language writers to promote inclusive reading and offer richer, more comprehensive reading for everyone. People can visit www.linepaper.com to try it themselves.
SHKP has staged its Read to Dream programme for ten consecutive years and this year involved 1,700 disadvantaged children in a myriad of reading activities including attending the Hong Kong Book Fair accompanied by SHKP volunteers doling out HK$250 allowances from SHKP to purchase educational reading material and more. The Reading Club presented a talk by winners of this year's Young Writers' Debut competition at the fair explaining how their publishing dream came true and held a linepaper reading workshop with Ong Yi Hing and Simon Shen exchanging views with readers on different perspectives.
