Read to Dream shows 1,600 students to the joy of reading

The SHKP Reading Club had a range of activities during this year's Hong Kong Book Fair to promote the fun of reading.

Reading and writing pleasure

The ninth Read to Dream programme during the annual Hong Kong Book Fair had a programme of reading activities for over 1,600 underprivileged children. Students were taken to the fair with allowances to buy books and there were celebrity talks and workshops to spread creativity and the fun of reading. SHKP Executive Director Allen Fung encouraged students at the opening ceremony to talk about reading with family and friends to exchange ideas and learn from each other. SHKP Executive Director Eric Tung recommended The White Tiger by Indian author Aravind Adiga during the celebrity talk and encouraged students to learn from the book and broaden their minds and horizons.

To encourage aspiring young authors to join the 2016/17 Young Writers' Debut Competition, SHKP Reading Club holds public talks in SHKP shopping malls with judges and past winners talking about their reading and writing experiences. Visit the Young Writers' Debut Competition Facebook page for details of talks and the competition.
