Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon promotes exercise for good

Cycling requires a combination of physical and mechanical power. The thrill of speed and achievement earned from the sport is a real pleasure for every cyclist, regardless of the pace or whether they are riding alone or in a group. SHKP acted as title and charity sponsor of the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon held in early October to promote healthy, sustainable living. The charity sponsorship was part of the company's efforts to show care for people in need. It donated HK$3 for every HK$1 donated by participants; a higher proportion than normal for matching funds. The Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong will use the funds it receives to help gifted underprivileged children, while the other beneficiary The Community Chest of Hong Kong, will direct its share to Mother's Choice and child services at The Salvation Army.

The fun of group cycling

At the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon opening ceremony, SHKP Chairman & Managing Director Raymond Kwok told the audience that he hoped the event would show Hong Kong as an energetic city to visitors from around the world and convince local families of the physical and mental well-being that cycling offers.

Highlights of the two-day event included races in Tsim Sha Tsui on the first day; the International Criterium Race, Men's and Women’s Open Races for professionals competing for championships and a CEO Charity Ride to liven up the event. Cycling rides on the second day included a 35km Challenge Ride, 10km Community Ride, Kids & Youth Rides and a Family Fun Ride. The charity event attracted local and international cyclists competing or simply enjoying the fun of road biking, including over 400 SHKP staff, their families and friends. There was also a carnival at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza to raise people’s awareness of a healthy lifestyle.

Positive energy for underprivileged families

SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok earlier took part in the SHKP Cycling Fun for the Underprivileged activity, where The Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong invited underprivileged children and their parents to enjoy a bike ride. He hoped that the activity would help disadvantaged families strengthen parent-child bonds and communication, as well as benefit from the positive energy that exercise brings to life.
