SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation raises English standards among mainland government officials to facilitate international communication

The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation collaborates with the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee and The Academy of Chinese Culture to offer English courses for mainland government officials in Beijing, Jiangxi, Gansu and Tibet. Participants recently joined an Advanced English Enhancement Course in Hong Kong and took the opportunity to visit Foundation representatives and senior SHKP management to show their appreciation.

Supporting government officials as they improve English proficiency

Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok was pleased to hear visiting course participants speaking fluent English to demonstrate what they had learned and talk about their experience. She said: "Mainland civil servants with a better command of English can effectively communicate with the world and help facilitate the country's development." SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok chatted amiably with the participants and got to know their work in the civil service, encouraging them to apply what they had learned both at work and in daily life.

The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has sponsored The Academy of Chinese Culture in providing mainland civil servants with professional English courses since 2003, to a positive response. Since 2012, The Academy has commissioned The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to design and organize Advanced English Enhancement Course in Hong Kong. The interactive programme is meant to strengthen participants' mastery of English related to tourism, finance and government affairs.
