Caring for the elderly together

Showing concern for the elderly is a traditional virtue, and SHKP put on a poon choi (basin dish) banquet for about 2,000 elderly to spread the cheer of the festive season earlier this year. Meanwhile, our volunteers paid visits to senior singles and couples at home to spread warmth.

From a trickle of care to a wave of blessings

SHKP once again hosted poon choi banquets and gave out goodie bags at Noah's Ark Hong Kong for about 2,000 elderly people living in Tsuen Wan and Wong Tai Sin as part of its festive Lunar New Year celebrations. SHKP also sent volunteers to distribute goodie bags and visit seniors in different parts of the city. SHKP Chairman and Managing Director Thomas Kwok said that in addition to the poon choi banquets, the company's Building Homes with Heart Caring Initiative was regularly involved in different charity and volunteer activities, underpinning the commitment to use our resources to show care and concern for the needy in society. SHKP believes that even small gestures from everyone can generate significant benefits for the community.

The helped ones pay it forward

Elderly Ms Chan lives alone in Sham Shui Po and has been helped by the SHKP Volunteer Team for a long time. She was first affected by the redevelopment of Shek Kip Mei Estate and got help from SHKP volunteers through a programme organized a decade ago. She was so impressed by the volunteers that she also started volunteering herself at a centre for the elderly to help others, showing the selflessness of altruism. She was recently a beneficiary of the Family Warmth through Homes with Heart project in which she enjoyed the love showered on her by the volunteers who are now as close as family, adding colour to her life.
