The Club organizes various activities for members as part of its efforts to promote green living. Among the novel events planned for this winter are the Walk for the Environment 2007 held by Conservancy Association and a green family tour in Tai Po.
Green walk
Protecting the environment is a core part of SHKP's Building Homes with Heart commitment. There were places reserved for Club members for the SHKP-sponsored Conservancy Association's Walk for the Environment 2007. Escorts explained on the nature and environment along the scenic route, which started from Hok Tau in Fanling and ended at Sha Lo Tung in Tai Po. Sha Lo Tung has been listed as one of the scientifically important sites with high conservation priority, which is home to diverse species of dragonflies and damseflies. The tour let members get close to nature and learn more about conservation. It drew very good turnout by members.
Green family tour
Winter family outings are healthy and build togetherness. The Club will host a green family tour to Bradbury Youth Hostel in Tai Mei Tuk and the Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve in Tai Po. Experts from Greeners Actiions will be there to explain the ecology and conservation issues. Members will also be able to see some of the nearly 170 species of butterfly at the grade-four ecological site in Fung Yuen. See www.shkpclub.com for more.
