SHKP Fund for the Elderly helps needy seniors
SHKP's Fund for the Elderly has helped many needy seniors since it was established in 1995. At the annual general meeting of The Hong Kong Society for the Aged (SAGE), Vice Chairman and Managing Director Thomas Kwok said that he hopes the Fund will benefit more elderly people in the future.
Valued members of society
Mr Kwok said, 'Every senior would like to be cared for by family, but those in difficulty need society's help to make their lives comfortable and happy. Our seniors have worked hard contributing to society, and I've seen many who are still working after 60 years. They choose to serve society and train the next generation, exerting a positive influence and helping others. They have a wealth of wisdom and experience, and are one of society's most valuable assets.'
Meeting seniors' daily needs
The SHKP Fund for the Elderly was set up in 1995, and it is managed SAGE. Over the years, the Fund has assisted seniors by paying for hearing aids, eye surgery, wheelchairs and dentures, to help them hear, see, get around and eat. The Fund also pays for safety bells and bracelets, home appliances and winter clothing.
Seniors' dreams come true
The Fund has also made dreams come true for many seniors, for instance assisting them to visit relatives in Mainland. With the Fund's assistance an 81 year old woman got to visit her son and grandson in China. After the Fund approved her application, there was a noticeable improvement in her health, showing the power of family love.
Rich life in old age
Some people compare old age with the twilight, but Mr Kwok does not agree. He says that seniors with a positive attitude can give the benefit of their experience to younger people and live a rich life. With the right outlook, the sun shines on every time of life.
